A survey conducted using the method of the Big Data Analytics, and based on a sample of banks identified by business model, shows that Italian banks are more diversified than European banks and that the Universal and Retail banking models are still prevailing. These models have better performed during the crisis, thanks to the diversification of activities, risk control and a more stable profitability.
