Banks cannot stay out innovations, so as not to miss the opportunity to respond to the new needs of their customers. To this end, the digital euro and the technologies that enable it are needed, to link the most advanced innovation to the economy, to legality, stability and to consumer protection. The new European currency must enable native programmability, to compete on a par with the best market alternatives, such as Dlt and all Fungible and non-Fungible Tokens. The digital euro will be the raw material with which banks will be able to build natively digital services, under the direct and exclusive control of the Eurosystem. In this spirit, the Italian Banking Association has promoted an experimental project linked to the digital euro, and has developed four first use cases, which will be followed by others, trying to solve concrete problems.
